The Hepton Singers’ concert will celebrates the patron saint of music
The Hepton Singers will complete a year of music-making on Saturday 1st Dec, in a concert in what for them is the familiar surroundings of Heptonstall Parish Church.  The choir will be performing their trademark mix of both early and modern choral music, marking the time of year when traditionally the patron saint of music St Cecilia is remembered.

The concert programme has been chosen to offer something for all tastes. For lovers of early music, The Hepton Singers will be offering music by the sixteenth and seventeenth century British composers Thomas Tallis, William Byrd and Henry Purcell. But the concert also offers short pieces by living composers whose work does not necessarily always get programmed very often.

There will be a rare chance to hear the choral work “In This Place” written by the British composer Will Todd, and originally performed in Durham Cathedral. Other British composers of the twentieth and twenty-first century who are represented in the programme include John Tavener, Gerald Finzi and Tarik O’Regan.

There will also be an opportunity to hear modern choral music from other parts of the world. Arvo Pärt, the Estonian composer, the Norwegian Ola Gjeilo, and US-based Morten Lauridsen and Eric Whitacre are all represented.

Dorian Kelly, Musical Director, said: “Even though this is the time of the year when the days are short and the nights long, we can promise a warm and uplifting experience for our Heptonstall concert.”
