The summer concerts, both in Manchester and in Heptonstall, will be Alison West’s last concerts as MD of the choir, after 16 years directing the choir, and another 17 years singing with the Hepton Singers before that. So it seems only fitting that she has chosen some of her favourite pieces for the choir to sing to bid her farewell.
Alison writes: ‘the music we shall sing for these concerts is a wonderful mix of Renaissance and contemporary repertoire. It will include Renaissance music by Guerrero, Tallis and Victoria, and more modern music by James MacMillan, Howard Skempton, Judith Weir, Galina Grigorjeva, Geoff Adams, and a complete re-working of my own piece Rehearsing the Languages of Birds.’
For our regular audience members as well as those who are new to the choir, either (or even both!) of these concerts will be an evening not to be missed. Put them in your diary now!
