This year’s Hepton Singers Spring concert will include a newly composed piece called Tyhoyi Nochi* (A Quiet Night) by the Ukranian composer Natalia Tsupryk alongside choral works spanning four centuries.  The programme will feature the many-sided genius of Henry Purcell through works written for grand state occasions, for the theatre, and for the ale house.  Hepton Singers will also be performing works from the Romantic era, including part-songs by Clara Schumann née Wieck and Fanny Hensel née Mendelssohn.  The twentieth century is represented by the stunningly beautiful Lenten Motets by the Czech Composer Antonin Tucapsky as well as music by the American composer Amy Beach and the current Master of the King’s Music, Judith Weir.

*A Quiet Night – Tyhohi Nochi is a creative response to the full scale invasion of Ukraine by Russian forces in early 2022 and the ongoing conflict across the country which has displaced millions of Ukrainian civilians.
Written by Ukrainian composer Natalia Tsupryk, A Quiet Night sets text by renowned Ukrainian poet Serhiy Zhadan and quotations from one of President Volodymyr Zelensky’s many powerful speeches.
A Quiet Night is a musical expression of solidarity with the people of Ukraine as they continue to suffer at the hands of Vladimir Putin: it is also a catalyst for connection, providing a creative vehicle for choirs to meet and sing with all those displaced by conflict in their communities.
